HURRICANE, W.Va. -- Top 2008 Girl Scout cookie sellers from Black Diamond Council will be honored at a reception from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at the Hurricane Valley Community Center.

In a press release, the council reports that 42 Girl Scouts sold over 1,000 boxes of cookies each. The top three sellers were Stacy L. Meadows from Huntington, Troop No. 2263, who sold 2,831 boxes; Janalee Poe from Fairmont, Troop No. 5312, who sold 2,266 boxes; and Alyssa Ebert from Cameron, Troop No. 3085, who sold 2,107 boxes.

All top sellers will receive a certificate and the incentives they earned in this year's sale. The three top cookie sellers also will receive a Cookie Achievement Medallion engraved with their name and individual accomplishment.

The council serves nearly 22,000 girls in West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio and Maryland. These sales are completely voluntary and are felt to serve as a unique, face-to-face learning experience for the scouts.

An additional ceremony will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, at the Holiday Inn in Bridgeport, W.Va.
