Buffalo’s Chelsey Parkins named Gamer of Week
Teays Physical Therapy Center Inc. and the Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Female Gamer of the Week to Chelsey Parkins of Buffalo High School.
The Buffalo Lady Bison are off to a great start to the 2012-13 season with a 4-1 record, with their only loss coming in a hard fought overtime battle at Poca. One of the reasons for the team’s success has been their returning starting forward Chelsey Parkins. This junior is no stranger to this team since she has been a starter since her freshman year and has already become the school’s all time leader in rebounding. In the 5 games so far she has averaged 19.7 points and 17 rebounds a game.
“The seasons always start out kind of slow but we will continue to improve. We only lost one girl and have most of our starters back. I think I have been doing really well in rebounding but I still need to improve my foul shooting,” said Chelsey about the season thus far.
Coach Jamie Ball became the coach of Buffalo last season and is very pleased with Parkins performance this season. “She is a spectacular player. You don’t luck into 17 rebounds a game, you have to work and earn those. She is 100% all the time when she is on the floor and her teammates rally behind her hard work and play on the court,” said coach Bell.
“Our biggest challenges are going to be Charleston Catholic and St. Johns as always but if we play like we know we can our team should go really far,” said Parkins.
Chelsey’s motivation comes from her family, classmates and community. She said that “my team and my family support me and are always at my game. We are all a family in these small communities and it really makes a difference because you feel like you have support from everyone and that helps to motivate me.”
Chelsey is a member of the Bison 2 time state champion softball team and currently has a 3.7 GPA.
Look for other local area high school athletes to be named next week’s Gamer of the Week sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center Inc. and The Putnam Herald.
