Visual Volume takes the stage; announces MusicFest plans

Jan. 11, 2013 @ 10:27 AM

POCA — Poca High School’s Visual Volume Show Choir launched itself into the 2013 competition season with its annual spaghetti dinner and exhibition performance on Sunday.

Visual Volume, the 2012 West Virginia Small School Division Grand Champion, will be competing with its show, “Life is an Adventure.”

And traveling to competitions is only part of the choir’s adventure. Another major aspect of Visual Volume is that it is hosting its 15th edition of the MusicFest Show Choir Competition. After several years at the Charleston Civic Center, MusicFest is coming home and will once again be held at Poca High.

The Feb. 2 event will feature a lineup of groups from West Virginia and Ohio.

“We had a great run at the Civic Center, but the completion of the auxiliary gym has made it possible to return this competition to the school where it belongs,” Poca show choir director Jospeh Kincaid said in a press release.

In all, 15 choirs from West Virginia and Ohio will participate in one of the largest show choir competitions held in West Virginia. Area schools attending are Hurricane, Winfield, Nitro, Cabell Midland, Buffalo, Capital, Herbert Hoover, Riverside, Sissonville, and host Poca. The lineup includes most of the top schools in West Virginia from 2012, as well as quality groups from as far away as Columbus and Cincinnati.

Tickets can be purchased at the door. Cost is $13 for an all day, come-and-go pass. A full schedule will be available soon.
