Confidence earns national Blue Ribbon

Sep. 23, 2012 @ 12:18 AM

Superintendent of Schools Chuck Hatfield proudly announced today that Confidence Elementary School has been named a National School of Excellence and will be awarded the Blue Ribbon at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., in November.

Confidence was one of 219 public schools nationwide to be named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan on Friday.

Confidence is being recognized for overall outstanding academic excellence and student achievement. Their students consistently lead the state in assessment scores and show no achievement gap between student subgroups.

“This award is well-deserved,” states Superintendent Hatfield. “That Confidence is able to offer a world-class education in spite of the challenges [they faced in the old facility and with nearly 40% low SES rate] is proof that all students can achieve to high levels. It is the staff that makes the difference,” he says.

Principal Colleen Huston is quick to share praise, “Confidence is a family,” she says, “and every member contributes to our success.”

Students and staff have much to celebrate this year. The Blue Ribbon designation will grace their new state-of-the-art facility that opened in August.
