HURRICANE, W.Va. -- Hurricane High School is soon to add new resources to their science department.
Bayer Material Science has provided the school with a $1,000 grant that will be applied to the purchase of a spectrophotometer used in the analysis of substance concentrations, a CPS tablet that interacts with digital projectors to show student work on a whiteboard, and other technology tools that will aid students in recording or presenting their work, according to Karen Nowviskie, Putnam County Board of Education director of early childhood education/community outreach.
Bayer has been a contributor to the school for several years supporting the school's Quiz Bowl and providing funding for other classroom efforts.
This school year, Bayer coordinated a trip for the school's advanced chemistry classes to visit their national headquarters in Pittsburgh where students toured the facility and were allowed to participate in some product development processes.
Nowviskie adds that Science Department Chair Frances Tolley is grateful for Bayer's participation because the items intended for purchase with the grant funds will allow for more widespread student class participation.
