Putnam Career, Technical students design Toyota Christmas card
BUFFALO, W.Va. — Putnam Career and Technical Center Emma Hurle’s design work is being seen around the world this holiday season, after her entry was chosen as the winning card in the Toyota Motor Manufacturing West Virginia, Inc.s, annual holiday card contest.
The focus of this year’s card was “One Team, One Company, One Community.” The designs were developed by the students and highlight the plant’s commitment to its products, team members and community.
Hurle’s card shows a Christmas tree with an ornament which is a world globe surrounded by a ribbon imprinted with Toyota and a red star where TMMWV is located. The inside of the card reads: “A world of best wishes for the holiday season & throughout the new year. One Team, One Company, One Community.”
Hurle won a $500 scholarship for her design; second-place winner Sara Phelix received a $350 scholarship. Both students were recognized during a ceremony on Dec. 11. The awards were presented by Barry Pearson, Toyota human resources manager.
The contest is a PCTC classroom project that provides the students with design experience and gives them valuable training in researching the customer, developing concepts, incorporating technology into design and presenting the final concepts in a professional manner.
