Poca hosts MusicFest

Feb. 08, 2013 @ 12:20 PM

Saturday was a homecoming of sorts for Poca’s Visual Volume Show Choir.

Visual Volume hosted its 15th MusicFest invitational show choir competition, and for the first time in several years, the hosts didn’t have to leave home. After having to go to the Charleston Civic Center to host the growing event for the past several years, Poca was able to once again host it on its home turf following the completion of a brand-new auxiliary gymnasium.

The competition brought 15 choirs from West Virginia and Ohio for the all-day event, which ran from just past 8 a.m. until nearly midnight. Local competing show choirs included Buffalo’s Showtime, Hurricane’s Red Hot, and Nitro’s Showcats. Poca also performed an exhibition.

Here are the top finalists:

  • Swingers Unlimited, Marysville High School: Grand Champion; Best Vocals; Best Choreography; Best Band

  •  By Request, Loveland High School: First Runner Up

  • Rhythm In Red, Cabell Midland High School: Second Runner Up

  • Red Hot, Hurricane Highol; Third Runner Up

  • Voices In Perfection, Capital High School: Fourth Runner Up
  • Showcats, Nitro High School: Fifth Runner Up
