Putnam Young Writers chosen

WINFIELD — Students who won the first place in their divisions in the Putnam County Young Writer’s 2013 Contest will be recognized during a ceremony at the University of Charleston later this spring, and their entries have been forwarded to the West Virginia Central Writing Project for judging at the state level.

Putnam County winners, by division, are:

Grades 1-2: Brooklyn Blackwell of Scott Teays Elementary, “The Dancing Piggy,” Susan Bennett, teacher.

Grades 3-4: Danielle Carter of Poca Elementary, “In a Stray Cat’s Heart,” Karen Hackett, teacher;

Grades 5-6: Hannah Nunley of Eastbrook Elementary, “Martha’s Escape,” Janetta Burdette, teacher;

Grades 7-8: Madison Martin of Winfield Middle School, “I’ve Met the Alaskan Santa Claus,” Kayleigh Gillespie, teacher;

Grades 11-12: Alec Neu of Hurricane High School, “Flight,” Ronda Moncada, teacher.
