Denise Springer honored by club
Denise Springer was named Rotarian of the Year today by President Steve Patrick at the June 10 meeting.
"She has been a big help at all of our events and has participated with enthusiasm," said Patrick.
A member of Putnam Rotary since June 2011, Springer, stepped up a year ago to take on the onerous task of treasurer for the club. Aside from the hours of homework on fiscal problems, she is early to every meeting and is among the last to leave.
Many clubs include luncheon charges with their annual dues, but Putnam charges by the meal. That means collection duties at every meeting, and reconciling the cash with attendance -- less the costs of meals for guests and speakers.
While everyone else is eating and enjoying the fellowship of the occasion, Springer is busy reconciling the books -- all as a volunteer. "Her readiness to step up to the task was an outstanding example of the Rotarian motto of Service Above Self, said Patrick.
"She has been a big help at all of events and has participated with enthusiasm," he added.
"For her outstanding service, for her upholding and furthering the principles and ideals of the Rotary way of life, I am proud to recognize her as our Rotarian of the Year," he said.
For her part, Denise Springer graciously accepted the award and then returned to her accounting duties as the weekly luncheon meeting continued.
The Putnam County Rotary Club meets at noon on Tuesdays at First State Bank Community Room, 3754 Teays Valley Road. For more information, visit www.putnamrotary.com.
