Participation in drug-free program mandatory
WINFIELD, W.Va. -- Contractors bidding on county work will soon be required to prove their participation in a drug-free workplace program.
Dave McComas with West Virginia State Building and Construction Trades Council AFL-CIO approached the Putnam County Commission requesting county officials support a recent law encouraging contractors with the county have anti-drug policies. The law requires businesses to have drug testing policies.
Comparing it to the West Virginia Alcohol and Drug-Free Workplace Act, McComas said this is just one more way to ensure that workers don't go out on a job impaired.
All three commissioners approved McComas' proposal and requested that a resolution be drawn up by the county attorney.
Commissioner Gary Tillis commented that he didn't see any downside to McComas' proposal.
