Putnam County Courthouse goes wireless with headsets
WINFIELD, W.Va. -- Putnam County officials say new wireless headsets allow them to do their jobs more efficiently.
The headsets allow workers to maneuver nearly the entire floor space of the building, Dessie Hardway, Putnam County magistrate assistant, said
"We can really make such better use of our time," she said.
The idea for the phones came from suggestions from employees about a year ago.
Hardway said with filing, faxing, copying or document delivery throughout the building it was difficult to handle tasks and answer the phone.
"Every time the phone would ring, you'd have to drop what you were doing and go answer the phone," she said. "And most of the time, people just have questions that I can answer without stopping my work."
The devices are being used throughout the courthouse. The equipment was purchased through Express Printing out of Huntington and at a cost of roughly $300 each.
Magistrate clerk Louise Gunnoe said the headsets have really made things better for the staff.
"They can get up and move around without being tied to their desks all the time," Gunnoe said.
