Community Health Fair set for Nov. 3
CROSS LANES -- The GFWC-WV Woman's Club of Cross Lanes will sponsor its annual Community Health Fair from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Cross Lanes United Methodist Church, 5320 Frontier Drive.
The Health Fair will be in the Fellowship Hall and is in conjunction with the church's annual Craft Day. The church also will have breakfast and lunch food items for sale.
Thomas Health Systems will provide free flu shots and low-cost blood tests at $10 each. Blood tests are:
CMC (complete metabolic count -- requires 12 hour fasting)
CBC (complete blood count)
Lipid Panel (requires 12 hour fasting)
PSA (prostate specific antigen)
TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone)
Hgb A1C (Hemoglobin A1C or Glyco-hemoglobin)
All payments must be cash or check only -- no credit card; no insurance billing; no Medicare billing.
Free Health Screenings will include: blood pressure, diabetes, bone density, spine/posture analysis, skin analysis, and BMI (Body Mass Index). Have a free fitness assessment by a specialist from Tyler Mountain YMCA. Watch a demonstration of activities available in classes at the YMCA. See the equipment on Tyler Mountain VFD's rescue truck. Find out what fitness, health, and medical resources are available free at the Cross Lanes Public Library, and visit with the Rev. Gary Nelson and review his book, "A Relentless Hope: Surviving the Storm of Teen Depression."
Participants in the Health Fair include: Thomas Health Systems, Calfee Chiropractic Center, Tyler Mountain YMCA, Tyler Mountain VFD, Cross Lanes Public Library, Highland Hospital, WV Insurance Commission, Coalition against Domestic Violence, Altzheimer's Association, Payne and Garlow Insurance.
