Derek Coleman: It’s hot and messy, but bailing hay is a great way to exercise

It is Sunday. For many of you, today will be a day to relax, to go to church, spend time with the family, maybe to eat out and perhaps to lie in bed an hour or two longer than usual. I do most of those things, but I never stay in bed. I have to be up at around 5 a.m. each day when I'm at work and this tends to carry over into my weekends. I seem to have an alarm clock in my head that wakes me each day at the appropriate time but it doesn't adjust for weekends -- or maybe it's that I don't want it to. I write every day but that first two or three hours on a Sunday morning, when the children are still asleep and only the birds and the sound of the coffee pot disturb the silence, is the time I do a lot of my editing and finishing.
