A guide to the Citizen Awards
This week, The Herald-Dispatch is announcing its annual Citizen Awards, which recognize citizenship, volunteer efforts and accomplishments in business, athletics and the arts. This year, there also are two special recognition awards that will be handed out. Here is the schedule for announcing the award winners:
ZACK BINKLEY AWARD FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE: Leo Fleckenstein, for his work as the driving force for establishing a dental clinic to serve uninsured people.
BUSINESS INNOVATOR OF THE YEAR: Jack Basemore, president of JABO Supply Corp.
THE LOWELL CADE SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR: Dorothy Hicks, a longtime advocate for women’s sports at Marshall University.
SPECIAL COMMUNITY IMPACT AWARD: To be announced Thursday.
THE HERALD-DISPATCH AWARD FOR THE ARTS: To be announced Friday.
SPECIAL COMMUNITY IMPACT AWARD: To be announced Saturday.
THE HERALD-DISPATCH CITIZEN OF THE YEAR: To be announced Sunday.
