Hold 'em takes to the water with Ohio River Poker Run

July 18, 2008 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- You've heard of Texas Hold 'em, now how about some Huntington get 'em?

Ohio River boaters will do that this weekend as Huntington hosts the second Ohio River Poker Run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Boaters will pick up a poker hand at Adams Landing, Holderby's Landing (at Harris Riverfront Park) and at the Cajun Kitchen.

Grand prize is $2,500, and the entry fee is $250 to register your boat.

You get three meals for the day, a T-shirt and other prizes.

The day will start with breakfast at 8 a.m. at Adams Landing, on Buffington Street in Guyandotte, with the race starting at 10 a.m. with five stops.

There will be lunch from noon to 2 p.m. at the Showboat Marina/Cajun Kitchen and then a show of cards and awards ceremony at 6 p.m. Saturday at Holderby's Landing.

Race organizer Chuck McCloud said in a release that all boats are welcome -- regardless of size or speed.

"Even though we have million dollar speed boats in the event, this event is not about speed," McCloud said. "We don't care if you enter in a yacht, a 200-horsepower speed boat or a bathtub. You have the same chance to win."

The main thing, McCloud stated, is that it highlights the recreational fun to be had here at home.

"This event is about bringing the community together and showcasing the natural beauty of the Ohio River and having a day of good, old fun out on the river," McCloud said in a release.
