No serious injuries reported in ambulance collision
TEAYS VALLEY, W.Va. -- Although no serious injuries occurred when an ambulance crashed with another vehicle in Putnam County on Sunday, officials are reminding drivers to play it safe near emergency vehicles.
The accident happened about 10:15 p.m. Sunday near a truck stop along W.Va. 34, north of Interstate 64.
The ambulance was carrying a patient at the time. Some victims were being checked out as a precaution, but no serious injuries were reported.
Putnam County EMS Ambulance Service Director Cecil Kimble said the ambulance was heading north to get onto I-64 when a vehicle heading south cut across traffic to pull into a business. The ambulance hit the vehicle, causing the vehicle to strike a tractor-trailer.
Kimble says this isn't the first time this type of accident has occurred.
"That stretch of road is notorious for that....This time it was lucky because nobody was hurt seriously. We've seen some pretty bad ones over there, but it won't be the last one," Kimble added.
Putnam County Administrator Brian Donat said the ambulance received only minor damage and is still operational. The vehicle that struck the ambulance had to be towed from the scene.
