HUNTINGTON -- United Way of the River Cities has fulfilled its United Way of America membership requirements, according to executive director Laura Gilliam.

The board of United Way of the River Cities reviewed and approved membership requirements certification on June 25. The certification mandates completion of 13 requirements for United Way of America membership along with verification of the status of 44 indicators that a United Way demonstrates the intent of the membership requirements.

Over and above the annual requirements, United Way of the River Cities completed a mandatory organizational self-assessment in 2007 as part of this process.

United Way of the River Cities focuses on education, income and health. In addition to helping support 31 partner agencies, the organization is involved in three collaborative efforts. These address early child development, the financial stability of families, and substance abuse prevention.

The United Way of the River Cities is part of a system of 1,286 United Ways. Each local United Way must complete United Way of America's requirements annually in order to retain its United Way of America membership.
