CHARLESTON -- Thursday, July 17, was recognized as National Fibromyalgia Awareness Day during a signing of an official proclamation by Gov. Joe Manchin.
Ruth Lewis, director of the West Virginia Arthritis Foundation, accepted the proclamation.
Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain illness characterized by widespread musculoskeletal aches, pain and stiffness. Additional symptoms include excessive fatigue and problems sleeping.
An estimated 10 to 15 million United States citizens suffer from fibromyalgia.
