Christmas parades, events in full swing

Here is a list of upcoming holiday parades and tree lightings:

Parades

Ironton Christmas Parade, 6-9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1. Enjoy the fun of opening up the holiday season for the community with Santa Claus. Questions, call Lou Pyles, 740-533-3826. Downtown Ironton. Free.

Annual Huntington Christmas Parade, line-up starts at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2; parade begins at 7 p.m. The parade will march from 13th Street to 8th Street on 4th Avenue. The route then will travel down 8th Street to 3rd Avenue and end at Pullman Square. Following the parade, the lighting of the Huntington Christmas Tree during a ceremony at Pullman Square. Russell Christmas Parade, line-up starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4; parade starts at 7 p.m. Offered by the Russell Downtown Civic League. Grand marshals are Ruth Hopkins and Carolyn Buckholz. Theme: "Honoring our Senior Citizens with a Hometown Christmas Celebration." Immediately following the parade, a chili supper at the Russell Fire House. Christmas music by Stephen Salyers. Photos available with Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus on their float. Downtown Russell.

Hurricane's Reindog Parade, 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. Holiday costume contest for dogs. All dogs must wear antlers and be on a leash for parade. Call 304-562-0518. Hurricane Valley Park, Hurricane.

Tree lighting ceremonies

Annual Lesage Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2. The names of each person remembered and the name of the one who made the donation are read at the church along with the choir members from churches in the community singing Christmas songs. A program will be printed with all names listed. After the reading, a candle lighting service at the tree along with a song and then the lights are turned on. For information on how to list a name, call 304-762-2300. Names were due by Wednesday, Nov. 26. Cox Landing United Methodist Church, 5995 Big Seven Mile Road, Lesage. $5 each.

9th annual "Joy Tree" of Lights Lighting, lights come on Saturday, Nov. 29-Jan. 6. The community is invited to donate $10 for the lighting of a "Joy Light" in honor or remembrance of a person or family member. The fundraiser helps provide lodging at the Jeffrey E. George Comfort House for out-of-area patient's families referred by local hospitals. For donation information, call 304-522-1832. Jeffrey E. 2nd annual Memorial Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at the southeast corner of 14th and Chestnut streets. Hosted by the City of Kenova. Music by C-K Alumni Band. Town of Ceredo Christmas Tree Lighting, 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, corner of U.S. 60 and First Street West, next to United Bank. Featuring Santa Claus. Downtown Ceredo.

25th annual Lights of Love Ceremony, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the front entrance of Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, St. Christopher Drive in Russell, Ky. The celebration includes a tree lighting ceremony, entertainment by the Greenup Arts Children's Chorus, the Adult Handbell Choir from Advance United Methodist Church and the Ashland Holy Family Middle School Choir. With a $5 donation to Lights of Love, a Christmas light on the tree will be dedicated in honor or memory of a loved one. Proceeds benefit the hospital's Lifeline service. Charleston's Joyful Night Ceremony, 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1. The audience is invited to join in a musical tour of the capitol, Governor's Mansion and Cultural Center. To start, the Christmas tree lighting on the north plaza, following a color guard ceremony by the 130th Air National Guard, the Cabell Midland High School Marching Band and the Appalachian Children's Choir will perform. Other entertainment featured throughout the event. Guests are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys to place in the Toys for Tots donation box in the Rotunda. The annual Huntington Christmas Parade begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2 on 4th Avenue and runs between 13th and 8th streets.
