Lawrence sheriff’s office awarded $15,825 grant
IRONTON _ The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded a $15,825 grant by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Watercraft, according to State Rep. Ryan Smith, R-Bidwell.
The grant is part of the division’s Marine Patrol Assistance Grant.
The money will be used for patrols on the Ohio River during the summer boating season and to provide emergency response to boating-related accidents or to search for bodies, said Sheriff Jeff Lawless.
“With its close proximity to the Ohio River, the additional funding is helpful in order for the department to more safely and effectively carry out patrol duties on the water,” Smith said in a prepared release.
