50 kids to perform in 'Seussical Jr.'
ASHLAND -- Ashland Community and Technical College Children's Theatre will present the musical "Seussical Jr." at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8 and 9, in the J.B. Sowards Theatre.
"Seussical Jr." brings to life Seuss' characters Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and the Whos of Whoville. In the show, the colorful tales are brought together by a young boy and portrayed by a cast of 50 children in third to ninth grades.
This junior version of the Broadway musical has been adapted for the skills and voices of young performers, a release from ACTC says. The score, with lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty, ranges from Latin to pop, swing to gospel, and R&B to funk.
Karen Curnutte is the show's musical and production director. Edward Figgins, ACTC's director of theatre, is the producer and scenic/lighting designer.
Tickets are $6 and $4 for students, seniors and groups of 10 or more. They may be reserved through the ACTC bookstore, (606) 326-2014, with a major credit card.
Reservations are recommended. Unreserved tickets will be sold at the door for each performance.
