Man arrested in attempted robbery of tobacco store
HUNTINGTON -- Police have arrested a man in connection to an attempted armed robbery at Stogie's Tobacco and Beverage on Friday night.
Johnny Lee Cooper, 28, has been charged with first-degree robbery.
According to police, a man wearing a ski mask walked into the store, located on the corner of Washington Avenue and First Street, and pulled a knife on an employee at about 11 p.m. Friday.
The robbery was thwarted when a second employee walked into the store and saw what was happening. No one was injured.
The suspect fled and was later apprehended at a nearby house where police said he confessed.
Cooper was in the Western Regional Jail Saturday afternoon awaiting arraignment.
