American Legion Post 16 conducts flag ceremony
HUNTINGTON -- While members of Veterans of Foreign Wars chapters from across the state were gathering in one location Saturday afternoon for their annual convention, American Legion Post 16 was having its own somber ceremony in honor of Flag Day.
Post 16, located at 1421 6th Ave., conducted a flag retirement ceremony, disposing of American flags that had been damaged or were no longer functional in the manner deemed appropriate by the U.S. Flag Code, by burning them.
The ceremony was accompanied by a 21-gun salute and the playing of taps.
