Woman, illegal immigrant sentenced on separate charges
HUNTINGTON -- A Huntington woman and an illegal immigrant were sentenced in separate, unrelated cases, according to court documents and a recent press release issued by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Susan Barrett, 42, of Huntington will serve one year and nine months in federal prison. She had pleaded guilty in March to distributing crack cocaine. The incident occurred Dec. 28, 2005, in Huntington.
Barrett agreed to make the admission in return for the prosecution dismissing two additional counts of drug trafficking. The dismissed offenses were said to have occurred in January 2006.
Eduardo Fuentes-Gonzales, 23, of Mexico was sentenced to eight months in prison. He had pleaded guilty to being an illegal alien who re-entered the United States after he was removed in December 2006.
Fuentes-Gonzales was ordered to be deported and spend one year supervised release. The supervised release will be inactive once he is deported. He would have to complete the one-year probation term, if he re-enters the country legally.
Authorities found Fuentes-Gonzales on Aug. 15, 2007, near Point Pleasant, W.Va., in Mason County. He had been deported on May 23, 2006, and Dec. 9, 2006.
The December removal followed a May 31, 2005, arrest in Tennessee. He was charged with manufacturing/selling a controlled substance, according to court documents.
The most recent indictment states Fuentes-Gonzales never obtained express consent from the U.S. Attorney General or the Department of Homeland Security to re-enter the country.
Barrett and Fuentes-Gonzales were sentenced Jan. 28 by U.S. District Judge Robert C. Chambers.
