Expeditionary Learning plan

Sep. 29, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

The Expeditionary Learning model is meant to be implemented at a new Cabell County school being created by the consolidation of Peyton and Geneva Kent elementary schools for the 2015-2016 school year.

WHERE: It will be housed at the former Beverly Hills Middle School on Saltwell Road.

WHEN: Renovations are expected to start at the facility in 2014, after the new Huntington East Middle School opens in January.

FEEDBACK: Public meetings required for the closure and consolidation process will be held on Monday, Oct. 28, at Geneva Kent, and Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Peyton. Both meetings start at 6 p.m.

LEADERSHIP: In the meantime, the lead administrator position is expected to be posted in the coming weeks. Superintendent William Smith has said he wants to have the administration in place this fall, then start posting the teaching and staff jobs so that professional development can start during the second semester of the school year.
