Coalition to use YouTube contest for campaign finance reform

January 22, 2009 @ 08:40 PM

HUNTINGTON -- The West Virginia Citizens for Clean Elections is supporting an effort to pass a public campaign finance bill.

The coalition hopes the state Legislature will pass a bill that would allow legislative candidates to receive public financing for their campaigns. The money would be available to those candidates who adhere to strict spending limits and refrain form taking private contributions.

The coalition hopes to use a YouTube video contest as leverage. Three monetary prizes will be awarded to best entries. Prizes will range between $100 and $200.

The contest is geared to college and high school students. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 28. Winners will be announced by March 6.

Contestants can download a registration form and find out more about the contest and clean elections at www.wvoter-owned.org.
