Gas prices offer mixed picture

July 29, 2010 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- The metro area's average pump price of $2.764 per gallon offers a mixed picture, according to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

Wednesday morning's average was down 2.5 cents from Tuesday, but up 3.1 cents from last week. The price is down 1.9 cents from a month ago.

Speedway gasoline stations offered a range of actual prices from $2.69 in Ceredo, Ashland and Ironton, $2.76 in Scott Depot and $2.89 in South Point, Ohio.

AAA analysts said gasoline prices rose due to several factors from last week. Those included the dollar taking a substantial hit, the approach of a tropical storm that fizzled and an increase in the selling of single family homes.

West Virginia's state average stood at $2.803 as of Wednesday morning. That ranked 14th most expensive in comparison to other states and the District of Columbia.

Ohio and Kentucky ranked in the middle with averages of $2.74 and $2.71 respectively.
