Free cooking lessons, demonstrations offered through Huntington's Kitchen

HUNTINGTON -- It's been little over a year since the rumors began to swirl around a reality show based in Huntington about starting a food "revolution."
The show has long-since been filmed and aired on national television, and what residents of Huntington have to show for it is Huntington's Kitchen, which exists because of the show, where it was dubbed "Jamie's Kitchen" during the months of filming
Now, Huntington's Kitchen is operated by the Ebenezer Medical Outreach Program, and it offers lessons on the basics of cooking and how to make simple meals on a tight budget Monday through Friday and some Saturdays. Each class costs $10.
The kitchen periodically offers free demonstrations, like the one on Thursday, to attract new students from cooking novices to home chefs looking for new recipes and techniques.
During the demonstration, the kitchen played host to the weekly Ebenezer Outreach Fresh Market from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The produce sales from the market promote eating healthy for the Tri-State area. The proceeds also help fund the Healthy Lifestyle programming that appears on local television.
In addition to cooking classes, the kitchen offers up a variety of services including shopping volunteers to help identify unfamiliar ingredients, budget assistance, a cookbook library to plan meals and even hosting meetings and parties.
