Scout hopes to donate 500 books to Peyton Elementary School library

March 23, 2009 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- A local high school student is trying to get Huntington's children interested in reading and books.

Josh Engelbrecht, 17, is a student at Huntington High School and has recently started working on his Eagle Scout project.

"I want to get books back into schools and help kids get back into reading," he said. "I love to read and I think kids will benefit from my project."

Engelbrecht's goal is to get at least 500 books and donate them to Peyton Elementary School in Huntington.

"My goal is 500 books, but I hope I will be able to exceed my goal and get more," he said.

Engelbrecht has set up three donation spots so far in Huntington, and plans to set up more soon.

"People can drop off their used books as these places, or they can donate money for books, too," Engelbrecht said.

The three locations Engelbrecht has set up so far are at Empire Books & News in Pullman Square, Fifth Third Bank on 4th Avenue and Family Vision Clinic at 2904 Auburn Road.

For more information about his project, contact Engelbrecht at 304-525-1350.
