Authorities suspect arson in camper fire
HUNTINGTON -- Investigators believe someone intentionally set a camper on fire early Monday in Huntington's Westmoreland neighborhood.
Emergency dispatchers received word of the fire at 4:26 a.m. Monday. It was located in the 3200 block of Bradley Road. No injuries were reported.
City Fire Marshal Steve Ellis deemed the fire an arson soon after arriving. He called it an isolated incident. He cited an ongoing, criminal investigation in declining comment on several aspects of the fire.
Ellis described the camper as a total loss. Its smoke and heat spread to the owner's home next door, however the residence received minimal damage. He said several cats were rescued from the home to prevent possible smoke inhalation.
The Huntington Police Department also has an investigator working the case.
