'Meech Dog' brings laughs to Huntington

September 05, 2010 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- With performances from the likes of Gallagher and Demetrius "Meech Dog" Wheeler, the Pullman Plaza Hotel is proving that laughter is the best medicine in the ailing economy.

Wheeler was recently named "Best Comedian" at the Tampa Bay Area Hip Hop Awards. The Louisville, Ky., native put his stamp on the hotel as the latest performer in what the hotel hopes will be an ever-growing attraction of the Pullman Plaza experience.

"With comedy, we're trying to let the community know we're here for a good time," said Isaac Meyers, manager of Bobby Pruett's Steakhouse, which is located in the hotel. "We're here for a good weekend, and we want them to know we can be a second home if need be."

The next event for the hotel will be "Starry, Starry Night Cabaret," featuring two dozen of the area's best singers including Marina Jurica, Ryan Hardiman, Deborah Wolfe, Melanie Shafer and many more. It will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 and 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12 in the Pullman Plaza Hotel Playhouse.
