MedExpress to open in Huntington
HUNTINGTON -- A new place to treat scrapes and sprains is opening in Huntington next month.
MedExpress will open in Huntington on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
The full-service urgent care center will have on-site laboratory and X-ray facilities and be able to handle minor surgical issues such as abscess drainage and stitches, according to vice president of development and marketing Erich Lipphardt.
"We treat a wide array of illnesses and injuries," Lipphardt said.
The Huntington center will be located on Route 60 in the Gabriel's Plaza.
The center will also specialize in treating flu, bronchitis, colds, sinus issues, sprains, strains, scrapes and some breaks, he said.
The first MedExpress opened in Morgantown in 2001.
"Since opening in Morgantown we've been growing the company and now have centers in southwest Pennsylvania. We've been wanting to get centers opened in the rest of West Virginia," Lipphardt said.
A MedExpress is also opening in Charleston on Thursday, Nov. 6.
Currently centers are open in Wheeling, Beckley and Parkersburg, as well as in Colorado and Florida.
The Huntington center will initially employ an estimated 12 to 15 people, Lipphardt said.
MedExpress is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day. The center does not take appointments.
"We're ready when the patients need us," Lipphardt said.
The center will be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
