Arena hosts American Kennel Club dog shows
HUNTINGTON -- Dog days of summer, meet 500 dogs in downtown Huntington.
Early July marks the start of the hot and muggy dog days of summer, and Huntington kicked them off the right way, with the 93rd and 94th annual American Kennel Club dog shows at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena on Saturday.
Nearly 500 dogs and their owners traveled from as far away as Canada and California to participate in the weekend event that featured approximately 100 different breeds of dogs strutting their stuff. Kyle Fisher, a Huntington Kennel Club member for 46 years, said the show featured unique and new European breeds now sanctioned in the United States, including the Cane Corsa and the Leonberger.
The dog show continues Sunday from 8 a.m. until "Best of Show" winner is announced. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for seniors. Children 15 and younger are free with an adult.
