106 graduate from Chesapeake High School
CHESAPEAKE -- Chesapeake High School had its 91st commencement ceremony Saturday evening to recognize 106 seniors who earned their diplomas this year.
The ceremony was in the school's gymnasium where family and friends packed the stands to watch their seniors get their hard-earned diplomas.
During the ceremony, top graduates Chad Allen Meadows, Taylor Elizabeth Price, Caitlin Elizabeth Piazza and Rebecca Grace Welch addressed their classmates.
Piazza, who will be attending Marshall University in the fall to major in nursing, spoke about the friendships she has made in the past four years and how important they are to her.
"Accomplishments are wonderful, but they are nothing without friends to share them with," she said.
Price, who will also attend Marshall University to major in athletic training/pre-med, encouraged her fellow graduates to do positive things in their lives.
"Each of us has the ability to do something wonderful, to make our lives mean something," she said. "Today is only the beginning."
Meadows, Price, Piazza and Welch were among 44 students graduating with honors -- 14 summa cum laude (4.0-3.81 GPA), 14 magna cum laude (3.80-3.51 GPA) and 16 cum laude (3.50-3.20 GPA).
