Man charged with sexual assault on MU campus

Aug. 25, 2011 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- A Michigan man is facing sexual assault charges after a Marshall University student reported he sexually assaulted her in a dorm room on campus Monday.

Raven Terrance Lee Jr., 18, of Westland, Mich., was arrested by Marshall University Police and charged with four counts of felony sexual assault Wednesday afternoon. He faces two charges each of sexual assault in the first degree and sexual assault in the second degree.

Criminal complaints filed in Cabell County Magistrate Court Wednesday stated Lee forced the 17-year-old female victim into multiple positions and attempted to have sex with her. The complaints also stated the victim at no time gave consent to intercourse with Lee.

University spokesman Matt Turner said university records show Lee was a registered guest of the victim at the time of the incident.

Turner said Marshall students were not alerted at the time the incident was reported because circumstances surrounding the incident did not pose an immediate threat.

University officials did send out a notice to students following the report of a sexual assault on Aug. 18 that occurred off-campus. Turner did not comment on whether the cases are related.

The Aug. 18 incident is being investigated by Huntington Police, Turner said.

People on-campus, who need to report a crime, can call 304-696-HELP (4357) or 911.

The Marshall University Women's Center also has a website set up about sexual assault at www.marshall.edu/wpmu/wcenter/sexual-assault. The center's phone number is 304-696-3112.
