Hundreds gather for Amy Wilcox funeral

June 20, 2009 @ 12:00 AM

COAL GROVE, Ohio -- Hundreds of family members and friends packed Dawson-Bryant High School's gymnasium Friday to say goodbye to 38-year-old Amy Wilcox.

The special education teacher died June 12 at a Cincinnati hospital from burns suffered in an April 30 fire that occurred at her residence.

Her estranged husband, Thomas Wilcox, 38, was indicted Thursday in the burning incident. He faces an aggravated murder charge, which could lead to the death penalty if convicted, as well as felony charges of aggravated arson, aggravated burglary, child endangerment and assault. He is being held in the Scioto County Jail on a $10 million bond.

On Friday, though, the focus was on Amy Wilcox, who was an interventional specialist at Collins Career Center and was a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church in Deering, Ohio.

She is survived by her children, Trevor and Emily; stepmother, Linda Ross; stepfather, Chris Bowman; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Erin and Eddie Neville of Columbus, Ohio, and Kayla Ferguson of Ironton; brother, Andy Ross of Coal Grove; and niece, Camryn Neville of Columbus.

Donations may be made to the University Hospital Burn Unit, 234 Goodman Street, Cincinnati, OH 45219. Attn: Dr. Kevin Bailey or Denise Youngman. Her church is also raising money for the family. Donations for that fund can be made payable to "Community Missionary Baptist Church for the benefit of Amy Wilcox," Liberty Federal Savings Bank, 314 Park Ave., Ironton, OH 45638. Contributions also can be hand delivered to the Liberty Federal branch in Proctorville, Ohio.
