June 29, 2009 @ 11:05 AM

CRUM, W.Va. -- Energy Express, an award-winning West Virginia summer reading program, will start its 12th summer program in Wayne County on Monday, June 29.

The program will serve more than 40 children in Wayne County, providing two meals a day and reading-based educational activities that help children maintain their reading skills and good nutrition during the summer months.

College students and community residents serving as AmeriCorps members support the program, which will take place 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 29, through Aug. 7, at Crum Elementary School, 152 School Street, Crum.

Major funding for Energy Express comes from the West Virginia University Extension Service, the Summer Food Service Program through the West Virginia Department of Education and the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts.

Local partners include the Cabell-Wayne County offices of the West Virginia Extension Service, the Wayne County Board of Education, Playmates Child Care and Crum Elementary School.

For more information, to volunteer, or to donate supplies or money for the program, call Tony Conn at 304-393-1233.
