Two plead guilty to federal drug, gun theft charges

HUNTINGTON -- Two people pleaded guilty to federal drug distribution and gun theft charges Tuesday in separate cases before U.S. District Judge Robert Chambers in Huntington.

Bryan T. Thompson, 38, of Huntington pleaded guilty Tuesday to distributing crack cocaine to a confidential informant in March 2009 in the area of 9th Avenue and 19th Street in Huntington.

Thompson faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 21.

The Huntington Drug and Violent Crime Task Force and the West Virginia State Police conducted the investigation.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lisa G. Johnston is handling the prosecution.

In a separate case, Jonathan Luke Ross, 23, of Barboursville pleaded guilty before Chambers on Tuesday to theft of firearms.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Ross broke into Sam's Gun and Pawn in Wayne and stole five firearms on July 23, 2008. Ross faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he's sentenced on Sept. 21.

The ATF River City Gun Task Force, Huntington Police Department, West Virginia State Police and the Wayne County Sheriff's Department conducted the investigation.

Johnston is handling the prosecution.
