'Will & Romance' hits soft side
HUNTINGTON -- Symphonic music and Shakespeare. If it got any more high brow than that, everyone at the Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center Saturday night would have left with a receding hairline.
But what good is culture without a little heart?
The two melded together quite nicely Saturday when the Huntington Symphony Orchestra performed various arrangements inspired by the Great Bard's plays, interspersed with performances by the Marshall University Theater Department of some of William Shakespeare's more romantic scenes .
The result was the aptly-named "Will & Romance," and it seemed to hit the mark.
"It's nice to go see something that has a little formality to it and a great atmosphere," said Ron Dennis of Proctorville.
"And we enjoy all the talent; it's amazing," added his wife, Carol.
The crowd wasn't the largest the Keith has seen in recent weeks, though those who turned up for the performance were glad they did.
"I've never been to see the symphony before," said Huntington resident Linda Cummings. "I've seen the pops, but never the symphony. It's so exciting."
Adding to the atmosphere was the theater itself, which continues to impress after an extensive renovation .
"This is my first time back here since its been redone," Cummings said. "I'm so glad we have it again."
