Groups to host diversity workshop in Beckley

October 24, 2009 @ 12:00 AM

BECKLEY -- Mountain State University and the Beckley Human Rights Commission will host a diversity workshop called Dimensions of Diversity from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the John W. Eye Conference Center on the Beckley campus of MSU.

The workshop will be led by Diana Bell, an award-winning licensed social worker from Wheeling. Bell has served as a community activist and advocate for social justice for more than 20 years. Her background includes service on more than 30 different education and community boards or panels. Among her current responsibilities, she serves as the racial justice director for the Young Women's Christian Association in Wheeling and a human rights commissioner for the city of Wheeling.

During the workshop, Bell will cover racism and its impact, the connections between stereotypes and behavior, benefits of cross-cultural communication and the impact of valuing diversity. Refreshments will be available after the workshop for participants.
