BARBOURSVILLE -- The Cabell County Reading Council and Borders bookstore at the Huntington Mall hosted a workshop for parents and teachers Thursday afternoon in an effort to combine two important topics for children.
Sharon Blume, publicity chairwoman for the Reading Council said the workshop focused on literacy and healthy eating and strength the two have when combined.
In addition to samples of healthy recipes, free cookbooks also were distributed to 25 attendees.
The workshop was led by Peggy Filmore and Brenda Chapman, both former teachers.
The Reading Council is offering a grant in memory of Donna Adams, the past president of the Reading Council and the West Virginia Reading Association.
Applications for the $500 grant are due by Monday, March 15, from any teacher in Cabell County who is working on a master's degree or certification in reading.
Applications and guidelines are available at www.ccrc-read.com. More information also is available by calling 304-528-5066 or 304-736-1926.
