MU construction to force 3rd Avenue detour

Oct. 06, 2013 @ 11:42 PM

HUNTINGTON – Construction of Marshall University’s new visual arts center in downtown Huntington will force traffic detours Tuesday-Friday, Oct. 15-18.

Both east and westbound traffic will be detoured to Veterans Memorial Boulevard or 9th and 10th streets to avoid the 1000 block of 3rd Avenue.

Don Van Horn, dean of the College of Arts and Media, said a large crane will be placed on 3rd Avenue for four days. It will take one day to set the crane up, two days to lift HVAC and other equipment to the roof of the building, and a fourth day to take it down.

Some westbound traffic will be allowed to turn onto 3rd Avenue but only to enter into the Pullman Square loop.
