HUNTINGTON -- Community Health Centers in Cabell and Lincoln counties are among those receiving funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

U.S. Rep. Nick J. Rahall, D-W.Va., announced the availability of $6,672,135 from the act through U.S. Department of Health and Human Services grants for the centers in West Virginia.

Valley Health Systems, Inc., in Huntington will receive $860,967. Lincoln County Primary Care Center in Hamlin will receive $189,758.

The funds can be used to add new providers, expand hours of operations and services, and for other purposes.

Lawrence County, Ohio, also will benefit from the funds, according to a release from Rep. Charlie Wilson, D-Ohio.

The Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization will receive $218,680 to hire a new full-time pediatrician, a diabetic educator, a nurse, and a front desk assistant, as well as one part-time nurse and one part-time support staffer.
