One dead in W.Va. 2 crash

Nov. 28, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

GLENWOOD -- One person was killed Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash that occurred about 4 p.m. on W.Va. 2 near the Mason County and Cabell County line.

According to the Cabell County Sheriff's Office, one person was pronounced dead at the scene while two others were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Although the investigation is ongoing, Sheriff Thomas McComas said it appeared the Ford Focus carrying the injured driver and passenger was traveling northbound and the Pontiac Grand Am was traveling southbound when one of the cars veered across the center line and collided with the other.

The Ford Focus, which came to rest in the northbound lane, had heavy damage to its front while most of the damage to the Grand Am was on the driver's side. The Grand Am came to rest by a tree line on the west side of the roadway.

McComas said damage to the Ford Focus was so severe that the driver and passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle.

Both lanes of W.Va. 2 were closed for at least two hours while law enforcement investigated the scene.

The names of those involved in the crash were not released Wednesday night.
