CHARLESTON -- A Putnam County man received more than five years in federal prison, according to a press release issued Thursday by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Chief U.S. District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin ordered the five-year, 10-month sentence Thursday against Joshua David Houdersheldt, 26, of Winfield, W.Va.

Houdersheldt had pleaded guilty in July 2009 to attempting to acquire and obtain oxycodone, along with conspiring to fraudulently acquire and obtain the drug. As part of his plea agreement, Houdersheldt stipulated he personally used approximately 81,900 milligrams of fraudulently obtained oxycodone, and he distributed approximately 10,500 milligrams to others.

The West Virginia State Police, Bureau of Criminal Investigations conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Monica K. Schwartz handled the prosecution.
