HUNTINGTON -- Cabell County's Title I Schools could be getting some major technology upgrades if the school board approves the bids at its 5:30 p.m. meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Three purchases totaling nearly $2.4 million are on the agenda. All of the funds are coming from American Recovery and Reinvestment, or stimulus, dollars. The purchases will affect Altizer, Central City, Cox Landing, Guyandotte, Highlawn, Peyton and Spring Hill elementary schools and Enslow and Huntington middle schools.
The first is the purchase and installation of wireless capabilities at a cost of $639,439. The second is the purchase and installation of 182 Lenovo ThinkPad Core laptops to replace original hardware in Title I teacher stations, at a cost of $194,922. The third is the purchase and installation of 46 mobile laptop labs, at a cost of $1.5 million.
The board also will hear a presentation on the 2009-2010 professional staff development plan.
The Wayne County Board of Education also will meet Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 6:30 p.m. at 212 North Court Street, Wayne.
The agenda includes the recognition of Tolsia High School Assistant Principal Ric Morrone and Spring Valley High School Assistant Principal Clinton Burch. The two administrators were recently named 2009 Principals' Leadership Academy Distinguished Scholars.
