MILTON -- Thousands of Tri-State residents lined up with their children for the second time in a week to get free swine flu vaccines from the Cabell-Huntington Health Department on Wednesday.
The former Milton Middle School played host to the parents looking to get vaccinations for their infants, children and young adults ages 6 months to 24 years old. Hundreds lined up outside the school before the vaccinations were scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
The vaccine was available in the live mist nasal spray and injectable forms. Elizabeth Ayers, the public information officer for the Cabell-Huntington Health Department, said 2,172 vaccines were distributed.
Future clinics including other high-risk groups will be planned as more vaccines become available.
For information about upcoming clinics, call the department's flu hotline at 304-526-3397 or visit www.cabellhealth.org. Another clinic is being planned for next week.
West Virginia's fifth death related to H1N1 also occurred this week. Monongalia County health officials say a Morgantown High School student has died after contracting the virus.
Monongalia County Health Department spokeswoman Holly Hildreth said Wednesday the 17-year-old girl died Sunday at Ruby Memorial Hospital. The girl's mother told officials that her daughter had cerebral palsy.
