Putnam commission holds off on new hire
WINFIELD, W.Va. -- The Putnam County Commission tabled a discussion to hire a new staff member for the Putnam County Clerk's office.
Commissioners wanted more salary and benefit details before making a decision on the request from Putnam County Clerk Brian Wood to help ease the burden of an increased workload during this election year. Wood said the position has been vacant for the past two years.
Though he did not name the applicant, Wood said he had an experienced person in mind for the position who had worked in another county office and he wanted to hire them quickly so they could begin to pitch in. With the commission's approval, that would mean the position would not be advertised through any public listing.
County Administrator Brian Donat said advertising the position to the public is encouraged, but it is not a required act for county officials.
The salary for the position is expected to pay between $8.53 and $9 an hour, though the total cost to the county for the person's salary along with benefits is uncertain. Donat is to gather this information and present it at the next commission meeting, which is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 9.
