Police blotter: Man arrested for third offense domestic battery

Reports from the Huntington Police Department provided the following information:

A Huntington man was arrested for third offense domestic battery in the 500 block of W. 23rd Street following an argument with his girlfriend on Saturday, Aug. 30. Joe Carico, 56, was arrested for the incident that reportedly occurred around 9:30 p.m.

DELIVERY OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE: Zachary Jose Merritt, 25, was arrested on charges of delivery of a controlled substance and possession with intent around 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28 in the 300 block of 8th Avenue.

Authorities found crack cocaine, scales, a knife, multiple holsters and magazines, a police scanner and more than $1,200 in cash. Those involved in the search included members of the Huntington Police Department Drug/Vice Unit and the Huntington Violent Crime Drug Task Force, including members of the West Virginia State Police. Preceding the search, Huntington Police Department Drug/Vice detectives had been surveilling Merritt after observing what appeared to be drug transactions between him and others.

LARCENY: A Huntington victim reported that an unknown suspect(s) took a $1,300 heating and air conditioning unit from the roof of a residence on the 700 block of 7th Street between 5 p.m. Friday and 8:46.

In an unrelated case, unknown suspect(s) reportedly took a $1,500 Dell laptop computer from a woman's room at the Holiday Inn on 3rd Avenue between 10:30 a.m. Saturday and 10:20 p.m.

In another case, unknown suspects reportedly stole two racing tires valued at a total of $800 and two chrome vehicle rims valued at $750 from Nickel Plate Road between 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28 and 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29.

Also, in a separate case, a $1,000 HP Pavilion laptop being used for music for a party at a fraternity house on the 1400 block of 5th Avenue was reported stolen from the residence's basement on Friday, Aug. 29.

In an unrelated case, a Huntington man reported that a $1,300 Canon camera and various lenses were stolen from his Linden Circle residence Saturday Aug. 30.

In yet another case, a woman reported a lock box stolen from her bedroom on the 900 block of 9th St. between 5:45 and 10:10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30. The box's contents included $1,200 cash and a friend's necklace that was a family heirloom.

BURGLARY: Unknown suspect(s) reportedly stole an estimated $1,200 in copper pipe from Daystar Television Network at the 1300 block of Reservoir Road between Aug. 19 and Aug. 29.

Clear Channel on Reservoir Road reported a similar incident occurring sometime before Aug. 29, with more than $8,000 in copper antenna parts taken.

STOLEN AUTO: A man reported his four-door Mazda was stolen around 5:20 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, after he left the keys inside the vehicle to go inside the courthouse on 4th Avenue and pay his taxes.

BREAKING AND ENTERING: Unknown suspects reportedly broke into the passenger rear window of a vehicle parked at Guthrie Court in Huntington, causing an estimated $1,000 damage and taking a $150 radio face plate. The incident was reported to have occurred between 1 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28 and 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29.

DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: Fenton Rigging and Contracting on 7th Avenue reported more than an estimated $1,500 in damage between Aug. 30 and Sept. 2. Unknown suspects broke a window and tore ignition wires on an excavator.

DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY/LARCENY: 1900 block of 7th Avenue, between 1600 on 8/30 and 1415 8/31, unknown suspects cut into the victim's convertible top and took various CDs, radio, a pocket knife and wallet.

Reports from the Western Regional Jail listed the following felony bookings:

Authorities in Wayne County incarcerated two people overnight on felony charges. Both were among those booked into the Western Regional Jail.

Rachel Leeann Perry, 19, was incarcerated at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday. She was charged with four counts of felony uttering.

John Daniel McCoy, 19, was incarcerated at 10:25 p.m. Tuesday. He was charged him with being a fugitive from justice.
