Cabell health department to offer flu clinics in Oct.
HUNTINGTON -- The Cabell-Huntington Health Department has scheduled clinics offering free flu shots for the 2008-09 flu season.
At this time, the health department will only be giving flu shots to those who are high risk and live or work in Cabell County or the City of Huntington. Others who do not meet this eligibility should check back with the health department later in the season.
The first flu clinic is for individuals 65 years old or older. It is scheduled to take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at the health department located at 703 7th Ave., in Huntington. Individuals with last names starting with letters A through M should come between 9 a.m. and noon, and individuals with last names starting with N through Z should come between noon and 3 p.m.
The next flu clinic is for people over age 50 or under age 18 or who are in another high risk category. This clinic will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Cabell-Midland High School.
No appointment is necessary.
High risk categories include:
- Children 6 months to 18 years old
- Adults over age 50
- Women who will be pregnant during flu season
- Health care professionals
- Anyone with conditions such as immune disorders, asthma, chronic lung diseases and cardiovascular diseases (not including hypertension)
- Anyone with neurological deficits that produce an increased risk of aspiration
- Household members and caregivers of any of the above groups.
Individuals enrolled in Medicare should bring their Medicare cards.
